Momma's Root Beer BBQ Pulled Pork
There is more than one way to enjoy a JONES Soda Root Beer, and we are giving you a head start on your recipe book. Follow along to create your very own Root Beer-infused pulled pork, the way Momma always taught us.
4-5 pounds (1.8-2.3 kg) pork shoulder or pork butt
1 large onion sliced
3 cloves of garlic, minced
1 cup (240 ml) Jones Root Beer
1 cup (240 ml) barbecue sauce
1/4 cup (60 ml) apple cider vinegar
2 tablespoons brown sugar
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
1 teaspoon smoked paprika
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon black pepper Hamburger buns or rolls, for serving
Instructions:
- In a large skillet, heat some oil over medium-high heat. Sear the pork shoulder on all sides until browned to help seal in the flavors.
- Transfer the pork to a slow cooker or crockpot.
- Add the sliced onion and minced garlic around the pork.
- In a mixing bowl, combine the root beer, barbecue sauce, apple cider vinegar, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, smoked paprika, salt, and black pepper. Stir well to combine.
- Pour the root beer mixture over the pork in the slow cooker.
- Cover and cook on low heat for 8-10 hours or on high heat for 4-6 hours, until the pork is tender and easily shreds with a fork.
- Once the pork is cooked, remove it from the slow cooker and transfer it to a cutting board. Using two forks, shred the pork into smaller pieces. Drain most of the liquid from crockpot, and add the pork back in to soak up remaining Juices.
- Serve the pulled pork on hamburger buns or rolls. You can also serve the pulled pork with additional barbecue sauce, coleslaw, or your favorite toppings
